Methodology of Website Design

This thesis deals with the methodology of web design according to current trends and present day demands. Great emphasis is placed on the process of creating web sites, their accessibility and usability. Based on theoretical background and personal knowledge the purpose of this work is to analyze existing website and propose and implement a complete redesign of the website of the Department of Political Science and European Studies at Palacky University in Olomouc. New website will facilitate communication between the department, its students and the public. Usability of new website will be verified by usability testing.
Analysis and comparison of user interface of the websites of special libraries at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague and proposals for its innovation

The diploma thesis focuses on the analysis and assessment of the existing user interface of the departmental libraries of Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. The theoretical part generally characterizes the discipline of Human Computer Interaction. Furthermore, it characterizes concepts such as user interface, web usability and web accessibility and information architecture. Besides, it introduces the organisation, functions and services of the Central Library of the Faculty of Arts, including departmental libraries. The practical part explores and assesses current condition of the websites of the departmental libraries. The aim of this research is to determine users' satisfaction based on their experience with these library websites. Moreover, the research monitors the users' idea of an ideal website. A further concern is the usability, accessibility, content, design and information architecture of the websites researched. In accordance with the results of the research, a schema of a new human interface for the departmental libraries is designed.
Study of consumer behavior of generation Y on selected e-shops

This diploma thesis analyses the phenomenon of adapting e-shops selling electronics and computers to the Generation Y in the terms of website usability. The theoretical part is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter describes a consumer behavior, shopping behavior and the difference between shopping behavior in physical stores and their cyberspace counterparts. The following chapter deals with the Generation Y and its characteristics. The last part describes the web usability itself, its common flaws in usability and the topic of web usability testing. The practical part is dedicated to a web usability testing on selected e-shops. The testing itself  was conducted by the user testing method, where all the tested subjects belonged to the Generation Y. A questionnaire and a guided interview were also used to gather information for the study. The survey revealed many elemental flaws in the terms of  web usability of studied samples and presented suggestions how to correct them. A big problem was found mainly in the design structure of the sites. Users were under constant advertisement pressure which has neutral or even negative effect on the Generation Y.
Information Architecture of Selected Digital Libraries Web Interface

(in English): This thesis is dedicated to the analysis and evaluation of applied information architecture of two selected digital libraries - Manuscriptorium and Kramerius of the National Digital Library. Information architecture is one of several interconnected web design disciplines. For designing purposes, information architecture can be defined as a complex of elements and principles. Analysis and evaluation of the existing information architecture depends on its integration into the web sites context. The thesis contains theoretical part with definition of information architecture, its elements and principles of design. It describes evaluation methods of information architecture as a combination of qualitative and quantitative elements of web sites. Information architecture of digital libraries often means architecture of the system. The thesis contains a definition of a digital library and explains focus on access application. Testing of web usability is the best way of testing the information architecture of digital libraries. It enables to test information architecture from user's point of view. The conclusion provide results of the usability tests.
